Chuck Colson is Dead...

Chuck Colson, controversial Water Gate figure and evangelical lightning rod is dead.  He died today of a brain ailment.  It is sad.  For many reasons.  Although he claimed to have converted to Christianity right after he was thrown in jail for his involvement with Richard Nixon, I'm not sure if he truly converted.  A few years before his death, Colson performed two very devious actions that tarnished his conversion---in my opinion.  First, he was one of the five 'evangelical leaders' that sent a letter to George Bush for going to war with Iraq.  In the so called "Land Letter"  he justified the preemptive strike against Iraq where thousands of lives were lost and millions of souls affected.  And second, when ever he spoke about legalizing immigration he always vilified the immigrants.  A true Christian would have never done any of those two things.  Perhaps that is why it took him a long time to go right after surgery...He did not want to go without having a clear conscious.   I just pray that the next Christian leaders are more conscionable about their actions and political views.  I for one do not like to mix politics with religion.  Our mandate as Christians is to strictly stick with the 'Great Commission."  Our number one job is to preach the true Gospel of Jesus Christ across the globe--in peace, love and salvation.

It always intrigues me that when Christians make mistakes there are other Christians that say, well they never "Really" converted. I find it strange that you can place judgement on someones actions that you do not agree with, right or wrong or indifferent, and put questions their salvation. I think the enemy does such a nice job of it all by himself, but its always comforting to know he has assistance among believers to help convict us of our weaknesses. Please, do tell, what makes you perfect? Because, as you stated, you clearly know what constitutes a "True" Christian and what actions deny them of their salvation.

I clearly stated that this is my opinion. Nowadays everyone is riled up by people's opinions. Opinion is not a judgement. My commentary is an observation. Colson himself passed judgement on all things he did not approve of...you never heard his radio commentaries? He persuades Bush to declare war on Iraq and as a result thousands of people died. U.S. forces bombed Iraq with tons of explosives decimating buildings and destroying thousands of lives. And now we are still paying for it. Radical Islam gained a greater foothold, and Christians are being massacred. Have you heard of the Arab Spring? For Christians it is more like an Arab Winter. So much for "God" telling Bush, and the Colson group to attack Iraq. I think the enemy has done a remarkable job of infiltrating the church with wolves in sheep's clothing and that is what Colson represented. A wolf in sheep's clothing. Or more like a war hawk mascarading as a Christian.
