I was also exposed to her music when she sang "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)" with George Michael. They made a great duet. It is so sad to see her go. She had a great voice. President Trump today said her voice was "God given". I cannot agree more.
I heard today while watching Fox News that she also sang at Dr. Martin Luther King's funeral. She was a true Civil Rights leader. And who can forget her song, "Respect"? It was a song for the times when African-Americans experienced discrimination at a great degree.
But one other thing that the world must not forget is that she sang gospel songs! One of her best renditions was "Precious Lord". The same one she sang at King's funeral. She was a devout Christian and we never heard any scandal from her. May she rest in peace.
